After his impressive win (on paper at the very least) over ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera on March 14th, 22-year-old Amir Khan is in a very good position. With his powerful promoter Frank Warren and his big fan base, a world title shot is almost certainly on the cards for the former Olympian soon, perhaps even this year. Yet there is one thing, and one man, Khan says he must take care of before any of that. Knocked out in just fifty-four seconds by Colombian banger Breidis Prescott last September, Khan has said ever since that he wants to avenge himself before his career is over.
In a recent interview with The Bolton News, Khan has said that the time is now and that he wants Prescott next, adding that he has asked Warren for the return match. As such, it appears as though Khan is a man of his word. In asking for such a risky fight, when instead he could likely have walked into some kind of world title bout, Khan has shown he has a real fighter's pride.. But will Prescott do to Khan what he did to him the last time they met? This is the big, big question, and if (or, more likely, when) the two lightweights clash again the arena that hosts the fight will be sold out with fans wanting to know the answer. Likely to be another pay-per-view offering, Khan-Prescott II (or should that be the other way around?) will surely do good numbers indeed.
Khan wants it, Prescott - who in truth has not done much since his career-best win - will surely want it; now it's just up to Frank Warren to make it happen.
Khan, who picked up a bad cut of his own in beating Barrera on a technical decision just over a week ago, said he will not lose to Prescott a second time.
"I won't make the same mistake again," Khan said. "I want to fight him [Prescott] again and it is a serious possibility. I have spoken to my promoter Frank Warren about it."
According to The Bolton News, Khan will do some charity work before going back to training with Freddie Roach in L.A, where he will continue to improve as a fighter under his new coach. However, due to the cut he suffered when he and Barrera banged heads, sparring may be off for some time.
Khan spoke about his cut.
"My cut is more than an inch long and quite deep," Khan said. "But I had Dean Powell, a brilliant cutsman in my corner and he stemmed the flow of blood. Barrera did not have one in his corner which I don't understand."
The Bolton News added that Khan will next fight in June. Let's see if it will be against the danger man himself!
