Anthony Yarde stopped Travis Reeves within five rounds at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night.
The British light-heavyweight prospect elevated himself to contender status with a performance that leaves him on the verge of a world title shot against WBO champion Sergey Kovalev.
In the early rounds, Reeves brought the fight to Yarde and was able to land multiple shots on the Ilford man.
However, it seemed as though the 27-year-old was always in control and slowly began to up the tempo as the fight wore on.
By the fifth this proved too much for Travis Reeves as Anthony Yarde piled on the pressure and put him on wobbly legs.
The referee jumped in to call a halt to the contest, prompting vibrant celebrations from the home corner.
“I believe every fight is a statement,” Yarde said post-fight. “I’m learning on the job. I’m making it look good, but I’m learning on the job.
“The performances are speaking for themselves. It’s not a 100m sprint, it’s a journey, it’s a career.
“Soon I think I’ll be mandatory for the WBO belt. Kovalev’s the world champion right now.
“I would take it, but you’ve got managers and promoters for a reason.”
Daniel Dubois knocked out Razvan Cojanu in two rounds to make a statement in front of British rival Nathan Gorman.
Dubois and Gorman are being set up to clash in a battle of prospects at the end of this year and so the 22-year-old was ringside to watch his 21-year-old future foe in action at the Royal Albert Hall.
What he saw would be enough to put most men off a fight with the young Dubois, as he demolished Cojanu with a brutal combination within six minutes.
The Romanian had previously gone the distance with Joseph Parker and Nathan Gorman himself, with top contender Luis Ortiz the only other man ever to stop him in the second.
Dubois matched the Cuban and made a sent a message with his tenth professional win.
After the bout, the noticeably relieved winner declared: “I knew I was going to knock him out. Hard work pays off.”
Regarding a potential bout with Gorman, he added: “I don’t match who I’m fighting next. I just fight them.
“When the time’s right and we step in the ring, I’m 100 per cent sure it’s a knockout victory for me.”
Earlier in the night, Chris Jenkins beat Johnny Garton to claim the British welterweight title.
Also on the undercard, Liam Williams knocked out Joe Mullender in two rounds to retain his British middleweight belt.
