Anthony Yarde handled an experienced southpaw pretty easily Saturday night.

The unbeaten British light heavyweight stopped Poland’s Dariusz Sek in the seventh round on the Martin Murray-Roberto Garcia undercard at O2 Arena.

The 26-year-old Yarde improved to 16-0 and recorded his 15th knockout. The stronger, younger Yarde also became the first opponent to knock out Sek in the veteran southpaw’s 34-fight professional career (27-4-3, 9 KOs).

Referee Steve Gray stepped in to save Sek from taking more punishment at the 2:17 mark of the seventh round. At that point, Yarde was landing clean, unanswered shots to Sek’s head and body.

Yarde didn’t do much in the sixth round until he cracked Sek with a left hook that knocked Sek off balance with 23 seconds to go in that round.

Yarde’s vicious assault on Sek’s body slowed down Sek during the fifth round. Sek tried to move away from Yarde, but his stronger opponent kept pressuring him and landing punishing punches that made Sek look ready to go toward the end of the fifth.

By the third round, Yarde had bloodied Sek’s nose. He continued hammering Sek to the head and body during that round.

Late in the second round, Yarde drilled Sek with a hard right hand to the midsection. He quickly followed that body shot with an overhand right side of Sek’s head.

Yarde patiently approached Sek during the first round. He eventually snuck in a short left hook to the side of Sek’s head that sent Sek to the canvas with just under 50 seconds to go in that round.
